Traditional Classes
The traditional classes at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Parish strive to catechize our children about the Catholic faith, to develop and strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ, and provide a strong base for their life-long journey of discipleship. The program also includes formation and preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Eucharist (Communion).
Grades 1-5 use the Discover: Finding Faith in Life curriculum from Saint Mary’s Press which uses the Bible as it’s core text, promoting biblical literacy and knowledge of key stories and events throughout the Old & New Testaments. This curriculum ties Scripture together with the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in an all new, engaging format for children that extends beyond the classroom and into daily family life.
Through a combination of weekly attendance at Mass, daily prayer, service in the community, regular attendance in faith formation classes and review of the lessons at home with an online component for each chapter, a student that is catechized in our traditional program throughout their elementary school years should finish 5th grade with a basic understanding and knowledge of the following areas:

First Reconciliation & First Eucharist Preparation
First Reconciliation & Eucharist Preparation is a two-year process here at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary. This journey typically begins in the first grade year and continues with receiving the sacraments at the end of the second grade year. It is not at all uncommon for children to be older than first grade when starting their preparation.
We offer sacramental preparation for children in grades 1-11. Please contact Kris Mulligan for grades 1-5 and Tiffany Madsen for grades 6-12. Children must have been baptized prior to starting this preparation.
