High School Youth Ministry
Welcome teens, parents of teens and adults interested in serving the youth of our parish! Our mission in youth ministry is to strengthen the Catholic identity of our youth, while rooting them firmly in Christ and in His Church. We invite you to journey to Christ with us.
"It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle."
- St. Pope John Paul II
Continuing Faith Formation
Finished sacramental prep and want to continue to learn, be challenged and grow in your faith while meeting amazing Catholic mentors and new friends? Join us for Life Night on most Sundays from 3 - 5 PM in the Catholic Center on our parish campus.
Life Nights consist of a game, a talk we call the "Proclaim", breaking out into small groups to discuss that night's topic and Proclaim and prayer.

"We don't want young weaklings. We do not want young people who tire quickly, who live life worn out with faces of boredom. We want youths with hope and strength...Make a mess, but then also help to tidy it up. A mess which gives us a free heart, a mess which gives us solidarity, a mess which gives us hope."
- Pope Francis

Effective Confirmation Preparation:

Confirmation preparation in the Diocese of Las Vegas is a two-year process, usually undertaken in grades 9-10. Preparation for this Sacrament of Initiation, involves attending Sunday Confirmation Nights and Life Nights, experiencing retreats, and participating in parish ministries. (Teens needing First Holy Communion can complete both Confirmation and First Holy Communion preparation at the same time.)
Register your teen for sacramental preparation for First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation online beginning April 2020 on our parish website.

“Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit – His actions, His gifts, and His biddings – in order to be ore capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end, catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of confirmands." — Catechism of the Catholic Church #1309
Steubenville Youth Conference
Each summer, St. Joseph’s high school teens attend the Steubenville Youth Conference in Sand Diego, CA. The Steubenville theme for 2020 is “Restored”, taken from Psalm 80:3 “Restore us, O God; let thy face shine, that we may be saved!.”
Over 50,000 Catholic teens across North America will attend one of 24 Steubenville Youth Conferences to encounter the God who calls us His sons and daughters. Come and experience His overwhelming love for you. We, at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, will not be attending the conference in 2020. We hope you will consider joining us in 2021! Teens who participate in this trip come back energized and excited about their faith. If your student is interested in participating, please print off the interest flyer and contact Tiffany Madsen at tmadsen@stjosephhom.org or by calling the parish office. |

Parent Resources
Parish Youth Ministry is designed to solicit a discipleship response in your teen, to stir up a desire to live for Jesus Christ as He lived and died for us.
What a fantastic opportunity you have as a parent to foster your child into an ongoing relationship with Christ! Your example in continually developing and living out our Catholic faith will help your child to continue to grow in love with our God.
We encourage you to share with your child.. Over shared dinners, rides in the car, or conversations while shutting down for the night, pray with your child for the continued blessings of this weekend to bear ongoing fruit in your child, in you, in your family, and in the world.
Worship Together – The Eucharist is the source of our love and the sign of the intimacy to which we are called. Therefore, as a family, we attend Sunday mass weekly and we actively participate in parish life–our spiritual home away from home. As a family, we regularly go to confession to seek God’s healing and grace so we might better live his vision of love.
Pray Together – As “domestic church”, we recognize that we cannot love one another as God loves us unless we ask him, together, to teach us what this means. We gather together as husband and wife and also as a family for prayer each day to praise and thank God for his blessings; we ask him for the grace to love each other and seek his will for our lives.
Called to Intimacy – Tertullian once proclaimed, “The world says, ‘Look at those Christians, see how they love one another!'” The Christian life is first and foremost a call to intimate communion. Therefore, as a family, we constantly challenge ourselves to seek to discover new ways to be even more open with and loving to each other as husband and wife, parents and children.
Put Family First – We recognize that– because our family relationships are the primary vehicle God uses to perfect us and challenge us to become everything we were created to be–family life, itself, is the most important activity. We recognize the importance of regular family rituals and we are intentional about protecting activities such as family dinner, family prayer and worship.
Witness and Sign – God wants to change the world through our families. We allow ourselves to be part of his plan for changing the world in two ways. First, by striving to exhibit the love and intimacy that every human heart longs for. We must show the world that this love is a possible dream worth striving for. Second, we will carry this love outside the home by serving the world.

The Christian family is the first place of education in prayer. Based on the sacrament of marriage, the family is the “domestic church” where God’s children learn to pray “as the Church” and to persevere in prayer. For young children in particular, daily family prayer is the first witness of the Church’s living memory as awakened patiently by the Holy Spirit.

“The vitality of youth is an excellence which God so delights in. Rather than fighting against what is great about young people, let us discern with them who God has made them to be.”
