St. Francis of Assisi
St. Francis, a deacon, who died on October 3, 1226 and was canonized two years later by Pope Gregory IX. St. Francis received the Stigmata on September 14, 1224 and suffered greatly in union with Our Lord. He is unique among the saints not only because of his Stigmata but also because of his likeness to Christ in his lifestyle and apostolate.
